About APA
The Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) is a national nonprofit headquartered in Arlington, VA. Our mission is to support prosecutors in creating safer communities through a fair and effective legal system. APA is a recognized leader in nationwide training and technical assistance, serving prosecutors’ offices, elected and appointed prosecutors, justice system professionals, and community partners. Through projects, committees, advisory boards, and partnerships, APA acts as the national clearinghouse for innovative prosecutorial practices.
Position Overview
APA is seeking unpaid undergraduate interns for the Spring 2026 semester. This is a remote position, with occasional opportunities to attend in-person meetings or events in Washington, DC and the surrounding areas (for interns based in the DMV area). Interns will assist with organizational projects and gain exposure to criminal justice policy and nonprofit operations.
Responsibilities
Undergraduate interns will:
- Support administrative tasks and day-to-day operations
- Assist with social media content creation, website updates, and digital communications
- Help with event coordination, including webinars, trainings, and conferences
- Conduct basic research (non-legal) on criminal justice topics, policy trends, and organizational partners
- Prepare and edit documents, presentations, and outreach materials
- Participate in virtual meetings and webinars to learn about prosecutorial and criminal justice issues
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
- Strong interest in criminal justice, public policy, or nonprofit management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Comfortable using standard office software and virtual meeting platforms
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation
- Organizational and time-management skills
- Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to a mission-driven team
Internship Details
- Duration: January–May 2026
- Commitment: Approximately 10–15 hours per week (flexible to accommodate academic schedules)
- Supervision & Mentorship: Interns will be supervised by APA staff and have opportunities for mentorship and professional development
- Learning Outcomes: Exposure to national criminal justice initiatives, nonprofit operations, and professional networking opportunities
- Academic Credit: APA will work with your school to meet credit requirements
- Technology: Reliable internet and a computer capable of running standard office and video conferencing software
