Program Summary:
Supports efforts to reduce sexual assault and violent crime, hold offenders accountable, and deliver justice for victims by addressing backlogs of unsubmitted and partially tested sexual assault kits (SAKs). Funding will assist criminal justice agencies in improving their jurisdictional response to sexually motivated crimes. Key components include:
• Inventorying, tracking, and testing previously unsubmitted and partially tested SAKs
• Collecting and analyzing lawfully owed DNA from offenders and arrestees
• Developing victim-centered protocols for investigation, prosecution, and notification
• Investigating and prosecuting cold case sexual assault and other violent crimes
• Enhancing collaboration among laboratories, law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim service providers
Eligibility:
State governments, units of local government, federally recognized tribal governments, and other public agencies involved in sexual assault response and cold case investigations.
