Image-Based Abuse Prosecutor Roundtable

Image-Based Abuse Prosecutor Roundtable

Wednesday, January 28, 2026 (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM) (EST)

Description

The Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) and the Joyful Heart Foundation invite you to an in-person roundtable on Image-Based Abuse (IBA), a growing form of technology-facilitated abuse involving the creation or distribution of intimate or synthetic images without consent. This convening will bring together prosecutors, policy leaders, and advocates to explore how the criminal justice system can better respond to and prevent these offenses.

Participants will examine:

  • Model practices for investigation and prosecution, including evidence preservation, victim privacy, and cross-jurisdictional coordination.
  • Evolving state and federal legislation addressing non-consensual imagery, deepfakes, sextortion, and related conduct.
  • Survivor-centered approaches that balance accountability and trauma-informed response.

This roundtable will contribute to shaping a practical, actionable framework for prevention and response, bridging research, practice and advocacy. The roundtable will foster collaboration between prosecutors, policymakers, and experts to advance effective, ethical, and survivor-informed prosecution of image-based violence.
